About the Genesis GV70

Steve purchased this Genesis GV70 new for $98,000 (including all on-road costs). Steve would buy this car again because: “Exceeded expectations and advertised promises. Very reliable and smooth. It’s a perfect highway cruiser and whisper quiet around town. The concierge servicing is a great time saver they come to your home or office with a replacement Genesis. They even arranged some minor scratch removal and a cracked windscreen replacement and allowed me to keep the replacement vehicle for the extra days required at no cost.”

How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.

No mechanical issues with reliability just standard servicing.

The black chrome trim around the windows has some weathering marks (see pics) that won’t come out with polishing. This is a global issue and Genesis is replacing these at the 60,000km service I have been advised.

What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?

In a word, brilliant. I won’t be selling this vehicle at five years I am intending to keep it at least 10 years.

Genesis advertising and promoting prior to launch had me worried that they couldn’t deliver with all the hype but I honestly have to give credit where it is due.

We go driving with no purpose sometimes other than just to enjoy going for a drive in this vehicle whether it be to the Gold or Sunshine Coast, or tackling the hills going to Tambourine Mountain.

It feels like a bespoke luxury experience driving this vehicle. Lots of looks and people stopping ask to ask questions about it even now almost two years after taking delivery.

How has the purchase and aftercare experience been with your car?

Car was delivered to our home (see pics) with the Genesis Consultant taking time to explain the various features of the vehicle before handing over the keys.

I have had three services to date in some cases they delivered the loan vehicle (another Genesis SUV or sedan) to my home before work then dropped off my serviced vehicle to my work before going home. Very punctual at all times.

I also received a nice gift hamper and happy ownership birthday after one year of ownership.

Are you happy with the price and features of your car?

At the time $98,000 drive-away was a big jump for me as I had previously owned a Hyundai Tucson. I had ordered the new Tucson but had constant delays in delivery (COVID).

Genesis had the vehicle in stock so we decided to give it a try. We are glad we didn’t choose a Mercedes-Benz, Audi, or BMW as these would have been downgrades feature wise even after adding all the added cost option packs they offer.

Now I look at current pricing of vehicles and what I paid for a top of the range product ($98k drive-away) I can see it was a bargain price.

What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?

Performance is quite amazing given the weight (2000kg unloaded). Launch control is a lot of fun. Overtaking is smooth and quick with excellent braking when required.

The tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV) are excellent in wet weather a little noisy at 100-110km/h though. At 58,000km travelled they still have about 20 per cent tread till replacements required ($620 each at Costco). I have tyre inflation at 40 front and 42 rear which helps the economy.

My first 10,000km driving saw economy at 10.4L/100km (careful to moderate driving style) to my latest 10,000km showing 10.8l/100km (more launch control takeoffs and moderate to harder driving).

Driving it hard will see these numbers escalate quickly!

Overtaking and driving up hills (aka Tambourine Mountain) the drivetrain gives me a ton of confidence with smooth power delivery from 2000rpm and excellent torque.

City driving will reward you with a very quiet cabin (acoustic glass on the front and sides) while with highway driving you will notice more tyre noise coming through – but not overbearing.

What do you think of the technology in your car?

A huge list of inclusions here check the Carexpert Review but my favourites are:

  • Blind-spot cameras (should be a standard safety feature on all vehicles but sadly isn’t). No head turning required, yes it’s that good.
  • Adaptive headlights.
  • Adaptive dampers
  • “Quiet” mode for sound system (mutes the rear speakers if someone’s napping
  • Head-up display with speed sign ( including school zones )

Some new vehicles being released this year (upmarket brands) either don’t offer all the tech the GV70 has or are offering some of the tech items us “packs” including some safety features.

Why would additional safety features be an option?

What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?

As noted above you will want to drive this car just for the pure driving enjoyment however it is hefty so don’t expect it to corner like a Lambo!

It really is an excellent long distance tourer and quiet city dweller.

Do you have any additional comments about your car?

A big plus was being able to choose from a large variety of colours for the inside (not just the exterior). I was tired most cars just having grey or black interiors.
